Just thinking...
I wonder how many parents of toddlers are injured each year by tripping over their damned baby gates? Not that I've ever done it, mind you! ::glances around:: Our house seems like such a hazard, with the gates and play yards and all that...and all in the name of safety!

Oh geesh, I fell real bad last year over our baby gate. I tried to jump it while running to answer the door. My foot caught it and down I went. It wasn't so much the fall that hurt me, it was how hard the top of my foot hit the gate. I had the kids answer the door because I couldn't get up. The telephone guy was a little freaked out at the sight of this woman in a housecoat, bunched up on the floor in immense pain. He offered to call an ambulance. I begged him off, gave him permission to go in our backyard, had the kids shut the door. Then I screamed and cried. It was the worse pain I'd ever had. I really thought I broke it. I got very faint, broke out in a sweat, got sick and had to call a friend cuz I was scared to pass out and leave the kids. LOL Looking back I can chuckle over it, but really it freaking hurt like hell. It bruised real bad. I did get x-rays and thankfully it wasn't broke, but OWIE!

We finally decided that we were either going to just teach my son how to stay out of the kitchen, or just live with him in it, b/c the gates made us insane! My legs are short, and it was nearly impossible for me to climb over them! I guess it was a good diet, though!

We are close to the "no more gates" days, but we will never stop locking doors too keep them out. Especially after the toilet over flowing incident.

We actually don't use the baby gates for Daniel, they are for the pugs. We have three gates in our house and they are a pain, but cleaning up dog shit on carpet is a bigger pain. One of our pugs is full of personality (at least that's what we tell ourselves), so whenever she has a chance to poop on carpet, she will. What's worse is when our male pug comes behind her and pisses on it. lol Okay that's not really funny, but what can I do but laugh. =)
